Pin size Differences between courses

ZsoltFulop , 01-16-2021, 05:08 AM
Hi.
I watched the 'Learn Altium Essentials' course for first and now I am on the 'Learn to design your own board' course. I realised on the 'Design your own board' course the sizes for the components and pins(in the schematic library) are different than in the Essentials videos. On the first course the pin length was 100mil-300mil, and on the second was 10mil-30mil(depend on parts). I was try to change them to mm, but still the numbers are not matching for me.
I created them with the 10mil pins but it looks too small for me and can be hard to see in the schematic.
Is it happened because of the software versions are different?

The old Altium was not really using mils. It was saying 10, but it really meant 100mil. New altium is now using the units correctly (100 = 100mil). So, it depends what altium version you use - in old altium (it think AD17 and earlier you need to use /10).

It has been a while since I worked with AD17 or older (I started with AD10), but I cannot agree with you on this.I have had pin length always as 0, 100, 200 or 300, depending on the number of pins (100+ pin generally 300mil).This for the font used - Arial 8pt.

Many thanks, I was using the values from "Learn Altium Essentials" course,so it was OK.
I just would like to mention it, just in case if will confuse someone beginner.
Anyway I am using Altium 20

- I had to double check, but it looks like the weird "units" were also in pins: https://youtu.be/65hJw_dM5Jk?t=113

@robertferanec Oops, my mistake, it seems you were right. Which version is this? Actually, I only did a little evaluation in AD10. My first design was in AD12. As the video was August 2011, I think it was AD10 or earlier. AD11 was skipped.

@qdrives I am not sure, maybe AD10(?)
