  • offsheet connector vs input , output , bidirectional port

can anyone please help me with attached pic
    why we need offsheet connector
difference between input , bidirectional port . why cant we use input port instead bidirectional
can we use only net name to connect all line on all schematic pages

    - I only use ports in Altium - you can automatically add the page number where signal continues. I think off-sheet connectors are used to keep compatibility with imports (e.g. import from Orcad would create offsheet connectors), I do not use offsheet connectors in Altium.
    - port direction helps for easier schematic reading (you immediately see if the signal is input / output etc).
    - port direction is also checked during ERC check, but I do not use this feature much as it is not perfect (e.g. Electrical Rules Check can show an error if you try to connect two output ports together)
    - I think, there may be an option to make local page nets to become global and recognized in the whole schematic (multiple schematic pages), but it is not a good practice

To the ports in Altium we can add page address, which show the other end of connection. Can we do the same with off-page connector?

          - normally two outputs are not connected together. However, if I need to connect for example two open drain outputs, then I use port I/O Type Unspecified.

          - I do not think so

or just set your porject ot have global nets (in the porject settings) and there should not be any issue but wyou wont have a hierarchical design anymore.. i always have global nets.. it saves a lot off hassle in my opnion.
