Altium 21 very slow

mulfycrowh , 03-30-2022, 12:53 PM
Hi,

I have a small PCB.
I didn't change anything.
Altium became very slow:
As I drag a component, it moves then freezes and so on ...
The DRC is very slow.

Where can it come from ?

Thanks.

The component doesn't freeze when it is out of the board.

When it freezes, it is written "DRC Violations ..." under the coordinates

Try opening Tools>Design Rule checker
When the dialog appears, select Rules to check in the left pane.
In the right pane, experiment with unchecking various rules in the online checkbox column. Maybe uncheck all check boxes in the online column and see if things get easier. In Altium, when there's a list of check boxes, sometimes you can right click in the area and select uncheck all and or check all. Look for such an option to help speed up checking and unchecking.

Perhaps after you uncheck all online rules, select OK to close the dialog box and get back to your PCB design. See if the sluggishness has gone away. If so, now you have to figure out which rule, or combination of rules caused the problem. Good luck

I unchecked all the rules and the speed is OK.
Now I have to check what rule(s) is(are) inducing the strange behavior.
Thanks.

I found the rule inducing the slowness in AD21.
I triggered it by placing a room over a component (MCU - 56 pins).
AD 21 displays "DRC Violations ..." with the light blue bargraph.
It takes about 5 mn before ending the checking.

The rule involved is Component Clearance (Placement).

The board is small, 4 layers.
How can I solve this issue ?

Thanks.

Are the 3D bodies ok or very big/complex?
