REPLACE component from library without rerouting in PCB

I made a new footprint in order for the silkscreen to pass DRC and updated a schematic library symbol with it.
Then I want to replace the symbol I had with the new schematic library symbol without messing up the PCB layout.
Can I REPLACE or UPDATE a component on my schematic with a library symbol so that the new footprint gets onto the PCB ?

From schematic symbol library update your schematic (right click on the symbol -> update schematic), delete the component from pcb, sync schematic with pcb. That should do it.
