  • About plugged vias under BGA

    Hi everyone,

    I have a BGA.
The manufacturer is asking if I want plugged vias.
I only have 2 vias for the fan out.
At present time, they don't have any via type according to IPC 4761.

I usually ask the vias to be covered with solder mask.

What are the pros and cons to declare the vias as plugging vias.
There are 4 different types of plugging vias in AD.
    Which one do you suggest?

    Thanks.

The is a lot of thing to be said about vias and their covering.
One of more interesting page that mentions this is this one:
Vias are plated holes that connect signals between layers, and are typically smaller than ordinary plated holes that are used for soldering through-hole components.

But there are multiple, like https://www.eurocircuits.com/blog/so...emical-nickel/

The main downside of the IPC 4761 via types is their additional cost.
