  • NET vs PORT vs OFF SHEET CONNECTOR

    I have difficulties to understand when use NET vs PORT, vs OFF SHEET CONNECTOR;

    Robert, I see in your design you never use OFF SHEET CONNECTOR apparently.

    Can we submarize that you use net for each local net to a sheet and port for global net ?

    Hello chris007 exactly as you described.

    - I use nets for connections on local sheets
    - I use ports to make connection between pages
    - I never use offsheet connectors (you can not use Reports -> Port Cross Reference -> Add to Project on them .... these are the numbers, placed close to each port, what shows on what pages the signal continues and they may be very useful. If you use offsheet connectors, you would need to write them manually, if you use ports, Altium can generate them)

      Perfect very clear. Thanks for the answer. I saw some TI designer using Off Sheet Connector so I was wondering....

        Usually you will get off sheet connectors if you import ORCAD schematic. But I always change them to ports.

            That is an interesting question. I always did that manually, but I am interested to hear if there is a faster way to do it
