Via placement for BGA power pins

I always start with one VIA per Power / GND pin. If there is no space I reduce it to two PADs sharing one VIA. I try almost never share three pads on the same side of PCB with one VIA.

It depends how much space you have available. If you have plenty of space, use a separate via for each pin. Otherwise it's normally alright to combine 2/3 pins. Also it depends on how much current they carry and how much noise tolerant they are. With a low current and less sensitive rail you can safely combine more pads.

Via placement for BGA power pins
If a BGA chip has several pins in a row all connected to the same power net, is it recommended to provide a via to each of them, or is it ok for two or three power pins to share the same via?Tags: None
