Understanding PCB Layout and transmission Line

uday1028 , 05-01-2019, 11:02 AM
Dear sir,

I watch your new youtube video

Now I understand about how energy will transfer in PCB

In video you said that trace will give direction to transmission line.

But we routed net for power like +3.3v ,+5V and trace width is 40 mil

Question is why 40 mil trace for power net ??

And how transmission Line react on 40 Mil trace?

In the video I was speaking about signals. What you are asking about are powers. When you watch Rick's presentation, you will start noticing differences between signal routing requirements and power routing requirements - these requirements are different.

For power we used 40mil as for powers we would like to keep low impedance connections, so we use wider tracks.

Why is it important to keep low impedance connections, Robert?

Very simply to say, you would like changes in power react as quickly as possible. Also very simple to explain is, for power you need higher currents and for higher currents you would like to use wider tracks.
