MMC, eMMC and SSD?

I m looking at memory for a SoM I am designing and I am looking at providing the footprint for an eMMC device as an alternate to a Micro SD, and I was wondering whether you could use SSD memory instead of eMMC. What would the advantages and disadvantages to connect SSD memory to an iMX6 or iMX53 chip? Has anyone tried this? Will SSD work with linux?

By SSD, do you mean, a disk connected through SATA? SATA SSD works oki with iMX6.

Thanks for that. Is their any examples of using SSD with iMX6? Do you need iMX6/linux drivers for SSD?

Nothing special. It just works when SATA is enabled. SSD is recognized as any other storage e.g. SD card (in our case, it's usually /dev/sdXX).
