Augmented Reality Circuit Board Visualizer

derail , 08-12-2019, 12:14 PM
During my Electrical Engineering degree myself and a few peers chose to develop an Augmented Reality tool for Electronics Workbenches. We saw a problem in the lab that we knew how to solve, and were extremely excited by the idea.

Fast-forward a year, many ups and downs, lots of market research and development: We officially launched InspectAR !

Check out our new augmented reality tool which helps with assembling, debugging, testing and validating PCB's: https://www.inspectar.com/

this is soo cool! great development, but how does it cope with large PCB's? like 300mm by 160mm

Thanks Paul! The largest board on hand we had to test with was 150mm by 150mm and everything scaled nicely! We are always looking to get our hands on bigger and more complex boards to test with though. We are actually running a beta right now of the product if that interests you, maybe you have some of these larger boards on hand to throw at our software?

@derail Very nice. I remember your post from some time ago and you really did it! I am impressed, great job.

Your original post: https://www.fedevel.com/designhelp/f...dware-bring-up

In the original post you asked about using AR in test, debugging and validating, however I believe this what you are developing could be very useful also in manufacturing environment and production. Did you try to show this to different assembly houses?

Do you have direct link to the video what you have on your main webpage? On youtube you only have long version of the video: https://youtu.be/fQXgdtNalsM

PS: I am really looking forward to see what you will do with it in the future.

Thanks Robert that means a lot! Myself and the team certainly mean to execute on this idea ! It was people like yourself whom gave us that early feedback on the idea that guided it into what we have implemented today. We actually spoke to a few manufacturing facilities, some quite early on ! There's a lot of interest there, however the features they'll need are in the wheelhouse of integrating with AOI tools on the floor. This is certainly part of our long-term vision, but for now we're targeting design firms to really ensure our core software is robust before building out integrations.Again, thanks so much for the feedback we really appreciate it !Here's a link to the video of the shorter clip - https://youtu.be/YUVcjhGFMMA. Feel free to share, our marketing budget is currently $0

@derail i think i have something lying around were i can check this out.. the thing is I am not allowed to share odb files outside of my own realm.. but i can install the software and play around with it and share if i run into something. if that is usefull to you.. but i think if you are capable of doing a multilayer PCB like the openrex board from @robertferanec you are on to something..

That sounds great! We currently do not support ODB files at the moment, only Gerbers X2 with extended comments and IPC2581B. Is that something you think you could get your hands on? We also support on-premise compute so the files do not need to leave your servers. If you haven't already you should sign up for our beta at www.inspectar.com/beta and we can go from there to getting the software into your hands. We also think the openRex project would be a great test candidate, it is something which we are considering using to show off to the world soon.
