Automatic fanout of FPGAs. Is this a good idea as opposed to doing it manually?

If you do it automatically, it is hard to control fanout of signals which suppose to be routed on the same layers e.g. if an automatic fanout is used how to get signals from specific memory groups to be routed on the same layers?

    Hi Robert.

I took your schematic capture and layout course about two years ago. Loved it!

I remember in the course how you directed doing fanout of a BGA, by hand. I learned a lot from that.

I was just watching a video done by someone about a year ago concerning BGA fanout in Altium.

He created a "room" for the BGA and then was able to do the fanout AUTOMATICALLY. I was kind of shocked. Can you comment on if that is a good way to do fanout or a not so good way.

    Thank You
    Tom
